Miriam Cabessa was born in 1966 in Morocco, spent her formative years in Israel and moved to New York in 2000 where she has lived since. In 1997, she was asked to represent Israel in the Venice Biennale, gaining international notoriety. The absence of paintbrushes in her work lends perspective to our notions of painting and a unique contrast to traditional brush painting. Cabessa has had solo exhibitions internationally at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Julie M. Gallery in Tel Aviv as well as stateside at Nye+Brown Gallery in Los Angeles and the Morris Museum in New Jersey.
